First, the saturday morning drive out to clementi almost ended disastrously when i lost my way and rushed for time, i made an illegal u-turn at a narrow section of a road and mounted the curb, crashing into the green railing. ok not really crash. but it scraped the side of the car n when i looked around, there was already a bunch of pedestrian and motorist spectators waiting to see more action.. =(
so i got out of the car (half freaked out) to assess the damage done to the car, thinking my dad was so going to disown me, (n at the back of my mind i tot i heard all the male spectators satisfying their suspicion, going, "no wonder lah.. female driver.. *snigger*") and wondering how i could maneuver the car out of the curb.. when fortunately a kind malay driver stopped his car n offered to help me drive the car out safely.
So, thanks a lot Mr Malay-Driver-in-White-Car!!
N y am i blogging about this? cos i need to geddit off my chest AND my parents don't read this blog. at least they don't know about it YET.
Then came Sunday. Bike Rally 2007.
We all managed to drag our arses outta bed to ECP at 6am, all eager and apprehensive of the distance we were all about to conquer on rented bikes, WHEN, not long after we were flagged off, wt who was cycling in front of me literally flipped over with her bike nearing a traffic light. This was instantly followed by nd's flipping (out of sheer shock, i suppose).
Turns out that she was drinking from her hydropac, reaching for the tube on her right shoulder, leaving the left hand to brake (front brakes!!) when we reached the red light. So peeps, if you're cycling, fix ur hydropac tube on ur left shoulder pls.. the bike does and will overturn if u brake too hard on your front brakes.. even when we weren't going downhill..
Anyways she cut her chin but no injuries to the face so she still looks very pretty as always.. phew!
The rest of us managed to complete the gruelling and crazy 128km round-island ride.
Crazy? here's why: ECP > NTU (Boon Lay) > Kranji > Serangoon Stadium > Serangoon Secondary School > Changi > ECP.
We went pass almost everyone's office, and maybe homes.
The number of animal roadkill i saw were the most i've ever seen in a single day. (ie. birds of exotic coloured plumage, butterflies, lizards, snakes - still alive ones even!)
Gruelling? here's why: 11 hours of unforgiving sun beating down on us, impatient motorists honking at us cos we're too slow going uphill on a narrow road, coupled with ass pain (it's more localised than ass, y'noe wat i mean), shoulder ache, wrist ache, neck ache, etc.
At the end of the day, we promised ourselves that we're not going to touch a bike for at least a year. But that's not going to come true for me cos next week it's cycling with AB on green island, taiwan. Sucker, sharon.
Here's them pics of e day:
